Pichai completed his grade 10th, from Jawahar Vidyalaya School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai and grade, 12th from Vana Vani School situated in the IIT campus, Chennai. He obtained his degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in Metallurgical Engineering. His professors at IIT suggested that he get a PHD at Stanford University, but he chose to pursue MS and MBA instead. He received his MS from Stanford University in Material Sciences and Engineering and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and Palmer Scholar.
