Do All Dengue Patients Need Hospitalization?

Usually, dengue patients can be treated at home. You should consume a lot of fluids and eat a nutritious diet to facilitate recovery. Remember fluid intake is a must, as dehydration could result in complications.

If you have dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, you will need hospitalization. Usually, this occurs three to five days after developing the fever. During this time, your fever will come down and you may assume you are getting better. On the contrary, this is the most dangerous period and you require medical supervision.

If you are suffering from severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, small red or purple-colored spots on the body, bleeding from the nose and gums, excessive thirst, cold skin, and passing black-colored stools, you need immediate hospitalization. However, if these symptoms do develop, usually it is too late.
