History Behind 21 September – International Day of Peace

This day was first established in 1981by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly to coincide with its opening session, which was always held on the third Tuesday of September. Thus the first Peace Day came to be observed in September 1982. It was only in 2001 that the General Assembly voted unanimously to establish 21st September as an annual day of non-violence and cease fire.
